Pinellas Technical College Baking and Pastry Arts Program

Pinellas Technical College offers a 600-hour Baking and Pastry Arts program at its Clearwater campus. The program has two 300-hour stages and provides practice in a commercial bakery setting.

Pinellas publishes a dated 2026 required-cost sheet. It is especially useful because the lab fee is almost as large as tuition, showing why students should compare complete program totals rather than tuition rates alone.

Program Sequence and Skills

The school’s program page lists Pastry Cook/Baker (FSS 0090) for 300 hours and Pastry Chef/Head Baker (FSS 0091) for another 300 hours. The first covers measurement, quick breads, cookies, cakes, icings, pastries, and yeast products. The second adds mousses, soufflés, choux products, frozen desserts, mentoring, and teamwork.

Students train in a commercial bakery environment. ServSafe coursework is required before kitchen lab work and for program completion. Ask whether each occupational stage results in a separate certificate.

Tuition and Required Supplies

Pinellas’ July 8, 2026 cost sheet lists $1,752 in tuition and $1,662 in lab fees. It also lists a $15 application fee, $97.50 in other fees, $235.21 for supplies and uniforms, and $228.25 for books. The sheet’s grand total is $3,989.96.

An optional association membership and certain outside-vendor supplies are separate. The sheet also lists a $37.99 ServSafe Manager exam voucher among required items; applicants should ask whether it is already reflected in the grand total. Prices and state tuition can change each school year.

Attendance, Testing, and Format

The college states that distance education is not available for this program. Students should plan to attend the Clearwater campus at 6100 154th Avenue North and confirm the current weekly schedule with admissions.

Pinellas lists at least 90% attendance and 70% satisfactory academic progress. Its completion basic skills requirement is ninth-grade computation and communication. An advisor can explain assessment timing, exemptions, and whether a student may enter before meeting the exit standard.

Certification, Credit, and Employment

ServSafe instruction supports food safety practices in professional kitchens. The school says no articulation agreement is currently available for this program, so students planning an associate degree should not assume automatic college credit.

Graduates may seek baker or pastry cook positions in bakeries, hotels, clubs, resorts, and related businesses. Pinellas does not promise a specific job or wage; ask its career office for recent program-level outcomes.
