Manatee Technical College Baking and Pastry Arts Program

Manatee Technical College offers a 600-hour Baking and Pastry Arts program at its Bradenton main campus. Students train in dessert production, presentation, sanitation, and workplace skills in a full-time daytime format.

The program has two 300-hour occupational completion points. Its published budget separates resident tuition from lab fees, books, clothing, and other required items, so students can see more than a per-hour price.

Program Content and Completion Points

Manatee’s program page identifies Pastry Cook/Baker (FSS 0090) as the first 300 hours and Pastry Chef/Head Baker (FSS 0091) as the second 300 hours. The curriculum covers preparation and presentation of baked goods and desserts, safe kitchen practices, communication, leadership, and employability skills.

The college lists Certified Food Protection Manager (ServSafe) as an aligned certification. Students may participate in SkillsUSA or HOSA activities. Ask an advisor whether an intermediate completion point yields a separate award and whether the certification exam is included in fees.

Schedule, Location, and Format

The school lists August and January starts and Monday-through-Friday classes from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The 600-hour sequence takes approximately six months at full-time pace. Classes meet on campus at 6305 State Road 70 East in Bradenton.

This is a daytime campus program. Students who need evening or remote study should confirm whether another cohort is planned before applying; the current page lists on-campus daytime delivery.

Tuition and Full Program Budget

Florida resident tuition is $2.92 per clock hour, or $1,752 across 600 hours. Manatee estimates $3,881 for tuition, lab, and fees, including a facility and equipment fee. Its fuller $4,207 estimated program total adds listed application, books, chef hat, nonslip shoes, and uniform costs.

The page lists a $45 application fee, about $153 for textbooks, $10 for a chef hat, $50 for shoes, and $68 for a uniform. Prices can change and some items may be bought from outside vendors. The college lists nonresident tuition at $11.71 per hour; nonresident students should request their own complete estimate.

Admissions and Aid

Students first apply to MTC and then complete the items in their applicant dashboard. Applying alone does not mean admission. The school says a basic skills assessment must be taken within six weeks of the admit date unless an exemption is documented.

Financial aid depends on eligibility. Manatee notes that pre-admission fees are nonrefundable and are not covered by financial aid. Ask the aid office how the 600-hour program is packaged and what payment is due before classes begin.

Credit and Career Considerations

The school says articulation toward Florida public college credits may be available. This is conditional; students planning to continue into an associate degree should ask a counselor for the current agreement and the exact credits awarded.

The program’s full-time daytime schedule may suit a student who can commit to intensive training. It may be harder to combine with a standard weekday job. Graduates can explore bakery, pastry, and hospitality openings, with advancement tied to experience and workplace performance.
