What Each Program Offers

Central Wyoming College

Central Wyoming College teaches culinary arts in Jackson. Its 60-credit Culinary Arts AAS and 30-credit Certificate I require one 3-credit Basic Baking course, and students can add a 4-credit Advanced Baking elective. The 14-credit Certificate II has no required baking course. The college states no American Culinary Federation accreditation.

Its marketing page still shows an older, 63-credit version of the degree, so rely on the current catalog and an advisor for requirements.

Sheridan College

Sheridan College offers a 31-credit Culinary Arts and Hospitality Foundations Certificate over two semesters, with one Basic Baking course. It feeds the college’s Hospitality and Tourism Management degree. Sheridan charges one rate regardless of state of residence.

  • Textbooks and supplies
  • Housing, transportation, and living expenses

Studying Baking in Another State at Reduced Tuition

The Western Undergraduate Exchange lets residents of western states attend participating public two-year and four-year colleges in other member states for no more than 150 percent of the resident tuition rate. Each college decides which programs it includes and can limit the number of awards, so ask whether the baking program you want is covered.

Baking and pastry programs in member states are on the Colorado, Utah, Idaho, and Nevada pages. Nebraska also has baking programs, at regular non-resident rates.

A few schools teach baking coursework online, with students baking at home and finishing with an in-person externship. The online baking schools page lists those programs.

Programs No Longer Listed

Sheridan College discontinued its earlier Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management programs in 2020 and now offers the smaller certificate described above. Laramie County Community College lists a Culinary Arts diploma that its catalog describes as a closed program limited to enrollment at Laramie High School. Casper College, Western Wyoming Community College, and Gillette College list no culinary arts program.
